exposition:information/ background that exists in order to understand the story. Usually takes place in the beginning
inciting incident: event or decision that begins a story's problem.
story: the events that follow
character arc: how the character changrd from the story
linear: an inciting incident occurs that causes a story takes place
episodic: the style in which timelines and story lines are being switched back and forth throughout the story.

Reviewed Kamakau, Ruling Chiefs, pages 142-168.
Discussion:
Kamakau's text is a translated text which means that it contains the biases of the translator. We need to make sure that is addressed in Essay #2 somehow. At the very least, we should mention that we are doing a literary analysis on the translated version of the text that appeared in Ku Okoa.
Next Steps:
Essay #2 is due this Wednesday. Bring a copy of your finished manuscript and a highlighter to class.
On April 5, we will have presentations about our essay #2. This will be similar to the discussions that we had for Essay #1.

As a class we went over chapter 7- 11 in The Ruling Chiefs of Hawai'i .We each talked a summary of each chapter, some metaphors in the reading, and what Kamakau was trying to say in the book.

We received our papers today and went over the rubric for the content of the paper. We have until the week before the end of the semester to get our highest grade, however do not wait because we can use this essay to help us on our next one. Our writing assignment consisted of going over examples of incorrect sentences within our essays and addressed them.
We discussed the PowerPoint assignment that is due on Wed 3/8 on the paper just written. Requirements
